Pottery Painting at Art Fuzd Schaumburg

How does it work as a Walk-In?

Q: Do I need an appointment or reservation?
A: Not at all! Walk-ins are welcome when the studio's open to do pottery painting. If it's going to be a larger family or larger group, please call ahead so we can have tables ready for you. For canvas painting, reservations are strongly recommended as canvas painting is not always available. For clay building, advance scheduling is required as it is only for parties or groups of 4 or more.

Q: Is there a minimum age recommended?
A: While there is no minimum age per se for pottery painting, to ensure the comfort of other guests who are visiting to relax and focus or visit with friends and family, all children must be able to remain in their seats or on your lap during their visit and also must be able to refrain from screaming out, yelling, etc. We don't allow any running in the studio. We reserve the right to ask you to return and finish another day if necessary. For clay and canvas, the minimum recommended ages are six and ten, respectively.

Q: Does everyone work on an art project?
A: Not at all! Sometimes someone comes with a friend and is just curious or wants to watch their child or a friend create art, or is part of a family that's creating art. We ask that the number of people that aren't creating art be minimized so other guests can be seated, limiting wait times.

Q: Do you have food, snacks, beverages?
A: For your convenience, we have water, juice boxes, and cans of soda for sale. You are welcome to bring your own beverages. Please keep in mind that oily or greasy foods are not recommended while painting pottery as it can effect the adherence of the glaze to ceramics.

Q: What is the price range?
A: For pottery painting, everything is clearly marked (starts under $10) and it's all-inclusive (includes the paint, use of design tools, as much help as you need/want, and the kiln firing). For canvas painting, it's per canvas and we have two sizes, a small canvas size (12 x 12) and a large canvas size (16 x 20). Opt to free-flow your own canvas design or choose between numerous design guides that we have available. For clay building, it's per project or per person if doing a combined project. For pottery, canvas, and clay, we have a huge selection under $30.

Q: Do you have "Sitting Fees"?
A: Not at all! Some studios do, while other studios don't ~ and it's largely just a preference! We "keep things simple" when it seems to make the most sense, and for us personally, sitting fees add unnecessary complexity for us and potential confusion to our guests. At Art Füzd, everything is clearly marked. And, that number covers your bisque piece, all materials you use, and the dipping and the firing in our kiln.

Q: Are you "All-Inclusive"? What does that mean exactly?
A: Yes, absolutely! As mentioned above, all the materials (glazes, paints, use of design and decorative tools or equipment) and supplies are included in the single amount for your project. Also, the additional work of the staff of Art Füzd glazing and firing your piece and storage of your finished artwork for up to 30 days is included.

Q: Do I pay today or when I pick up?
A: You'll always "have fun first!" at Art Füzd ~ "Where Fun and Art Füze!" And everyone settles up afterwards that day and then the pick-up process a week later is super simple and seamless.

Q: When can I pick up my projects?
A: Your receipt clearly specifies when your pottery will be ready for pickup! For pottery painting, your pieces will always be ready for pick-up in one week (i.e. seven days). For clay handbuilding, your pieces will be ready in two to three weeks. For canvas painting, your canvas will be dry and ready to take home with you.

Q: Why does it take so long to get my finished artwork?
A: A lot of care and time happens for your bisque pieces after you've created them! Let's say you've painted a beautiful princess figurine, okay? She's relaxing out on the drying rack at least 24 hours. Then, she's goes for a quick swim in the glaze! After she's been a chillin' for another 24 hours, she's got some hard work to do! She steps up carefully onto her very own kiln stilts and maintains her balance throughout her 24 hours in the ceramic kiln. This is when she gets super hot in temperature and her skin becomes super shiny and durable! And her color changes from being really pasty to very colorful! She's really happy when she gets to come out of the cool dark kiln and into the natural sunlight of lots of admiring fans... She's not done yet! She models for us for a few days on her shelf or until you pick her up and take her home. So, it takes a minimum of 3 full days for your pieces but they're put into the queue and we have 2 large kilns. Sometimes we can "expedite" your artwork, to be ready in 4 days or so. If that's really needed/desired, ask us what the current queue looks like...

Q: What if I can't pick up in a while?
A: Unless we have mutually agreed otherwise at the time of purchase, all projects MUST BE PICKED UP WITHIN THIRTY (30) DAYS. We are not responsible for projects not picked up within thirty (30) days. In other words, we're happy to hold your projects for you for up to thirty (30) days. The date when your projects will be ready for pick up is clearly written on all receipts. Our studio is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you'd prefer not picking up your projects or you need something shipped, we offer a convenient shipping service. You can purchase this service online, by phone, or at the studio anytime within the 30 days.

How does it work for Parties? How do I book my Party?

Q: Do I need to book my party?
A: Yes, for all parties with a cake and/or food, decorating, or celebration component, you pre-schedule your party with us so the space is reserved for you and setup in advance for you. Not all days and times are available for parties. We review your party plan and provide schedule options. Please submit the party request form on any of the following pages: Adult Parties, Child Parties, Office/Team Parties, or Private Parties. You can pay the party booking fee ($25) online, by phone, or in studio. You'll receive a detailed confirmation email.

Q: Does a larger group of people wanting to "just paint pottery" need to book a party?
A: Walk-ins of any size group are welcome when the studio's open to do pottery painting. However, if it's going to be a larger family or larger group, please call in advance so we can reserve tables for you. As seating is first come first served, it's important that we don't already have other large groups and/or booked parties scheduled when you walk-in as a large group. We reserve the right to decline service to large un-scheduled groups.

Q: How do parties at Art Füzd work?
A: We offer pottery painting, canvas painting, and clay handbuilding parties. There are different guidelines and info for each project type. Please visit the specific page for Pottery Painting, Clay Building, or Canvas Painting.

Q: Can non-painters hang out during an adult party?
Generally speaking, yes. We just ask that the number of people that aren't creating art be minimized so other guests can be seated, limiting wait times. In other words, we reserve the right to ask non-painters to allow waiting painters to sit instead if the studio is at full capacity.

Q: Can parents stay with their kids?
A: For young child parties, parents are welcome to stay for the party. That's not a problem, as we have a spacious and comfortable studio. In many cases, parents prefer to sit and talk and/or paint pottery too! The front area of our studio is ideal for this during child parties.

Q: Do I pay today or when I pick up?
A: You'll always "have fun first!" at Art Füzd ~ "Where Fun and Art Füze!" And everyone settles up afterwards that day and then the pick-up process a week later is super simple and seamless. For child parties, typically the host or host parent covers all the costs. For adult private parties and company outings, typically the host pays or everyone self pays.

Q: When can I pick up the party pottery or clay projects?
A: For pottery painting, all the party pieces will always be ready for pick-up in one week (i.e. seven days). For clay handbuilding, all the party pieces will always be ready for pick-up in two weeks (i.e. fourteen days). For canvas painting, all the canvases go home with the guests. For either child or adult parties, the host can pick up all the pieces, pick up some of the pieces, or have all the guests pick up their pieces individually.

Q: What if I can't or the party goers can't pick up in a while?
A: Unless we have mutually agreed otherwise at the time of purchase, party projects MUST BE PICKED UP WITHIN THIRTY (30) DAYS. We are not responsible for party projects not picked up within thirty (30) days. In other words, we're happy to hold your party projects for you for up to thirty (30) days. The date when your party projects will be ready for pick up is clearly written on your receipt. It's the party host's responsibility to pick up all party projects or to inform all party goers to pick up within thirty (30) days. Our studio is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you or any party goers prefer not picking up party projects or need some shipped, we offer a convenient shipping service for ten dollars a piece. You can purchase this service online, by phone, or at the studio anytime within the 30 days.
